“Our generation is becoming so busy trying to prove that women can do what men can do, that women are losing their uniqueness. Women weren’t created to do everything a man can do. Women were created to do everything a man can’t do. The lioness does not try to be a lion. She embraces the role as a lioness. She is powerful, strong, and nurturing. She does not mistake her meekness for weakness. The world needs more kind, compassionate, humble, faithful, persevering, confident, fierce, bold, pure, and tender-hearted women. Be one of them.”
On the surface, I like this quote. I am always trying to see the world from a different lens. I am sure many women would disagree. This is not meant to insult either gender. I have no desire to be a man. I would never want to live in a world without them. I love and respect many men. I just dislike when people look down on women like they are incompetent or incapable of doing great things with their lives. I love being a female. I love embracing my femininity. Women are not the superior gender. Women do not deserve respect for the simple fact that they are women. And that’s true for men too. Respect is earned.
I interpreted this quote claiming that both genders show strength in different ways. I do not believe that the roles of men and women should be identical. It would be an interesting day to see what gender equality looked like in the United States, however I am not sure if it will ever be a possibility. That’s just honesty. Do you think celebrities like Beyoncé, Emma Watson, and Oprah Winfrey truly believe in feminism? I like to think so. Yet, then I remind myself that they are all capitalists and I personally do not know them, so I am not 100% sure.
It’s a shame that people look at feminism like it’s terrorism. I am fortunate to live in a country where women have the right to vote, own property, and speak for themselves. I do believe there is such a thing as being too feminist. There are extremists in every category. I do not think all men are pigs, patriarchy has ruined my life, and or every woman is a victim. Because that is simply not true. The world we live in needs both good male and female role models. Question of the day: How would you interpret the quote above? Leave your comments below!
