Everyday Inspiration Day 4: Self-Care

Do you ever question why you decide to do something?  One of my friends asked me, “Why are you doing this Sarish?” The reason I wrote this blog was because I needed to take a leap of faith for myself. I do a great deal for the people I love and care for and I wanted to be selfish for once. People always say, “One day, I want to do…” I was tired of waiting for one day to come. Why waste another day of my life waiting? What am I waiting for? I am not getting any younger. Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams and take risks. There is safety in assimilation and invisibility. Fear, stigma, and shame will prevent from living the life you want to live. You need to end that vicious cycle for your own well-being.

Feelings show that you are a human being. You shouldn’t have to hide when you need someone to talk to about your problems. We all have them. There will never be a time in your life when you don’t have at least one. So you have to learn to live a happy life even with problems. Everyone knows that I am a mental wellness advocate. Most people do not realize that mental illness not only includes psychotic disorders, but also anxiety, mood, and eating disorders too. Take care of your mental, emotional, and physical well being. Make time to turn off your laptop, cellphones, and social media. Go outside for a hike, lift weights at the gym, or dance. Spend time with the people who matter most to you.
