( I wrote this months ago, I may need to update it soon!)
Dear Mr. President,
Jermaine Lamarr Cole once said,” I don’t want a picture with the president, I just want to talk to the man.” That is exactly what I want to do. Honestly, I would not mind taking a picture with him either. I do not listen to what anyone else says about our president. I know he is not the “bad guy,” the media claims that he is or is not. Media; the main means of mass communication, broadcasting, publishing, and the Internet. I would not define a man who lives in New York City with a television personality, real estate empire, and remarkable business skills as a “bad” person. Does he have a prejudice against or in favor of people belonging to a particular social class? Honestly, I do not know him on a person level.
He may be undergoing lawsuits; however most people in the United States are too. The common law legal system makes it quite easy to sue. The night he won the election, my roommate and I were sad. I had feelings of sorrow and I went to bed in tears. I shed tears in an expression of distress and pain because he won the election. I am a not a Democratic or Republican, I am a Pakistani-Muslim American female and you hurt my feelings. Feelings; are an emotional state or reaction. I know how to control my emotions unlike many human beings in this world. I am not a snowflake. I am not a deplorable. Although, I may look deportable, I am an American born citizen. I am a legally recognized subject or national of a state or commonwealth, either native or naturalized in this country. I would not work for the Department of Justice if I were not a citizen.
Mr. Trump, I would love an apology, a regretful acknowledge of an offense. You do not need to tweet me, talk to me in person, or in public. Many on Facebook claimed, “I know, he isn’t going to do the things he claims that he will.” Well, Donald, I did not know you knew some upper white class individuals in the west and east end of Massachusetts. If I had known you were best friends, then I would have hoped to meet you sooner. Personally, it would be an honor to meet you and your family. If our president did not need to pay for publicity, then I will follow his example. What is publicity?
The notice or attention given to someone or something by the media. I have nothing against journalists, Public Relation Officers, or marketing professionals. Anderson Cooper, Barbara Walters, Bill O’Reilly, and Ariana Huffington how are you doing? In the beginning of his presidency, I thought he was slowly dividing the United States into two pieces. Now, it is hard to say what is happening. At times, I can see that he is rebuilding our nation and attempting to make stronger global ties. To attempt is to make an effort to achieve or complete something. I would never wish to have our president impeached and overthrow the government. I would never wish that upon any president. If those who elected him do not trust this administration, then maybe you should ask yourself who voted for him. I still support you, although you have said some less than nice things about Muslims.
What kind of American would I be if I did not want the best for him? I cannot speak on behave of every Muslim family; however I can speak for mine. My parents, siblings, and I want to see you do well. To fail is to be unsuccessful in achieving one’s goal; I do not want to see him fail. If you fail, then the entire country will too. Why would I want one of the wealthiest, greatest, and most beautiful countries in the world to fail? Home is the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. I would never wish for that to happen. To wish is to feel or express a strong desire or hope for something that is not easily attainable. Home is where the heart is and this is my home. I love living in the United States of America!
Mr. Trump, you are not “my” President of the United States, you are every single American citizens’ President. To be honest, the issue with the Electoral College and popular vote has happened about four times in American history. I have no idea whether or not this election was “rigged.” That term means to assemble and adjust to make it ready for operation. How you won this election is none of my business. Almost every American Presidential administration has “scandal” behind it. It is an action or event regarded as morally or legally wrong and causing general public outrage. Do you remember Black Friday 1869, Credit Mobilier, Watergate, Iran-Contra, and the notorious Monica Lewinsky Affair? When you live your life in the public eye, you are bound to have someone out there who is waiting to sabotage you. Sabotage is to deliberately destroy, damage, or obstruct, especially for political or military advantage. I never want to see you fail. I am glad to have you as my president.
In all honesty, you absolutely deserved to win this election. In retrospect, I wish I saw the signs and came to that realization sooner, so I could have saved myself the tears. Realization is an act of becoming fully aware of something as a fact. There is no doubt you are a hard-working man. You deserve the life you live and provide for your family. You campaigned in many of the battleground states. Similarly, to former President Obama, you restored hope in the eyes of many of those suffering in Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. You have an incredibly beautiful, stylish, and elegant wife.
Melania Trump, you looked like a modern day Jackie-O on inauguration day. I loved that sky blue Ralph Lauren outfit; you dressed the part as the First Lady of the United States. Why does everyone care whether your speechwriter copied something Michelle Obama said in her speeches? If I were Michelle Obama, then I would be flattered to know that someone wanted to be just like me. You are new to the White House and First Lady position. Everyone else needs to stop being such a hypocrite. Hypocrite; a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. Every single presidency is different and I am willing to give you a chance.
In regards to the Former First Lady, Michelle you are an admirable woman, I would love to meet her one day. I am such a fan that, I looked up how she and Barack met while working at Sidley Austin in Chicago, Illinois. I also miss Joe Biden, I wish he and Barack would make a television show about their friendship. I am such a fan girl; I am the real life version of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Amy Schumer you make me laugh until I cry. I find strength in people who have had their world torn apart and still find a way to be happy. The quality or state of being strong, some say it is a beneficial quality or attribute of a person.
Anyways, back to the Trumps, I personally do not understand why the media cares whether they publicly display their affection. Some people do not publicly display their gentle feelings of fondness. In Islam, that is a respectable thing to do. Muslim men typically do not publicly display affection for their spouse or loved ones in public. The Muslim men I have in my life treat me like a queen, sister, daughter, and a best friend. The ones I associate with treat all women with respect, kindness, and care. If the President of United States wants to use, “Twitter,” as his freedom of speech platform, then what is wrong with that approach? Technology has changed the way we communicate with one another. I am sure; Jack Dorsey does not mind having the President keep his platform alive and well.
Although, I am not a fan of Breitbart news or Richard Spencer’s platform of “white supremacy,” I am not going to try to change his believes. The belief that white people are superior to those of all other races, especially the black race, and should therefore dominate society. I do not know about you, but I am not living in 1865. Every human being has the right to his or her own opinions in this country. That statement does not mean every opinion is valid or sound.
Validation of an argument or point having a sound basis in logic or fact. He has a right to his own opinions and I do too. I am glad we had this discussion. I am grateful to live in a country where my voice matters. Freedom of speech is the right to express any opinions without censorship or restraint. Here, I am giving you my speech. I was surprised to learn that, someone who grew up in a diverse city, like Boston, would feel that way. In my honest opinion, an ethnic cleanse would help make the world a better place. I am not someone who believes unicorns, rainbows, and world peace will happen in one day. Who thinks like that? I know that it takes time. Time is a cruel thief to rob us of our former selves.
Honestly, I do believe that civilization, as a whole is moving in the right direction. We have come so far from the days of the Civil War and the Confederate Flag. Abraham Lincoln did not sign the executive order of the “Emancipation Proclamation,” in 1863 to free three million enslaved people for us to back track in time. What is in the past is in the past. If you cannot move forward with that concept, then life will tough for you.
The globe is changing everyday whether you like it or not. In the world, we live in today, if you walk around with any group of people who have the same skin color, religion, or appearance, the assumption is we think in the same manner. Let us say we have a group of Muslim women, Caucasian “bros”, or African-American “thugs,” the assumption is people know who you are and how you think based on your appearance. I can tell you from personal experience, how skewed my perception of the world was when I was in college. I assumed that many of the Caucasian males that looked and acted like “bros” or Isenberg friends were xenophobic. If you have or show a dislike or prejudice against people in other countries, then the simple thing to do is not travel to that country.
Now, I have learned many of them are far from it. You truly never know someone until you meet that individual for yourself, in real life, in real-time on the street, in a park, or in a coffee shop. You should not believe everything you see or read on the Internet. I will never understand why many conservative Muslims, Christians, and Jewish people are outraged about women’s reproductive rights. In Islam, Muslim jurists have always viewed the fetus as the precious origin of human life. The womb is a fragile vessel that cares a unique soul, and hence deserves safeguarding and careful treatment. At 120 days from conception, the scholars of all schools unanimously agree that, ensoulment has taken place.
There is a high chance, I would never get an abortion; however let us say I decided to do so. Why do you care about what I am doing with my body? It is wrong in your eyes, so it is wrong. Well, then why are your eyes on my reproductive system? I do not tell anyone what he or she should do with his or her body, so kindly do the same. I have my own head, eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. I do not need yours in my business. That is an incredibly personal decision to make for yourself. Regardless of whether or not, I do or do not support reproductive rights, I am going to be a lawyer, and I need to be respectful of every human being’s rights.
Margaret Higgins Sanger was an American birth control activist, sex, educator, writer, and nurse. She popularized the term of “birth control”; she opened the first clinic in the United States, and established what the Planned Parenthood Federation of America is now. Who am I to tell anyone what he or she cannot do with his or her body? Did we not create a separation of church and state in this country for a reason? Honestly, I am just asking a question. What is your answer? The Pilgrims were settling religious persecution, so I am not sure why we are trying to bring that concept back. I just need clarification; I do not understand what is happening? Anti-abortion advocates are the same people who complain about foods stamps, and how corrupt or social security system has become over the years.
Well, I can tell you Franklin Roosevelt did not plan for this to happen. He created the New Deal and restored hope in the American people after the Great Depression. The poor Hispanics, Blacks, and Whites who cannot afford to feed their children or have abortions need those systems in order to survive. Honestly, I would not dare tell the Trump Administration or Congress how to run this country. I am sure, the House Speaker Paul Ryan and other politicians know what they are doing or at least I hope so. Any other American in the world can find out what the government is doing, you can “C-Span and chill.” I have no doubt in my mind that you would lose interest within five minutes. It is a lackluster experience; lacking in vitality, force, or conviction; uninspired or uninspiring. Sometimes, my mother watches it and I just tell her to change the channel. Instead, she decides to watch her favorite show, “Last Man standing,” Tim Allen, you are a childhood favorite in my household.
I truly do wish Donald Trump all of the best in his presidency. I know there are going to be times when I do not agree with how he runs the country, however I am not the president. I am not the Commander-In-Chief. I have no desire at this point in my life to run for public office, but who knows maybe I will one day. Regardless of political parties, I disagree with things every administration does and does not achieve. One day, I truly hope to see a woman be the President of the United States of America. We live in one of the most progressive countries in the entire world.
As human beings, we are constantly changing, growing, and developing into better versions of ourselves. I know our country is going through a tough time, however, I have faith in democracy, a system of government by the whole population or all eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives. I have faith that he will do what is best for this country. I would not say I have complete trust or confidence in any specific person or thing. The United States is a world power for a reason, as Americans we all understand the concept of hard work, dedication, and money.
The greatest problem Americans have is the fact that we work too hard and let work consume our lives. There is far more to life than paying bills, making money, and constantly working on the clock. In the Pakistani culture, family and the concept of “community,” is the essence to our lives. I believe every wedding is unbelievably beautiful, however nothing compares to a Pakistani wedding. Clearly, I am biased because I am Pakistani. Maybe, I will get married one day. We will see, I just want to have my own life for about five more years. The world is not lonely when you have a big family and group of friends to support you in everything you do in life.
